After four days chilled out in Vienna, I took a train to a mall lovely city, Salzburg. With an hour an a half along beautiful scenery all the way of the quiet rail path on a week day, I felt rather humbled on my steps. Lots of nice people I met on the train helped me out from questions where and how I was supposed to go. I didn’t expect much for the trip and had only very slightest ideas on each city I went as I was hoping that I would only have just to visit and see how each places were like and took as they would have come. I was able to reach my hotel from the help of a very kind old lady being my companion from Linz heading to the same destination, Salzburg.
After checked in at late noon, I started exploring the city with a map I grabbed from the hotel. Heading towards the main street and tried to figure out where I was going. That was the fun part for sight seeing on foot along the trail. As previously mentioned in my blog about Praguehow counting on your step worked for city sight seeing, sometimes you will possibly ended up somewhere you have never expected to, simply saying that “ You’ve just got lost” ha ha …Anyways, getting lost was somehow like a trick to explore the hidden path. But if you’ve gone too far and felt unsecured, I wouldn’t encourage you to take that risk, let’s walk back, shall we? In Salzburg, I’ve never seen any places made me feel unsecured. What I’ve seen was people were living their easy lives with slow path along nice streets and greetings with nice neighbors and their visitors. I let a quiet evening went by slowly on my first day in Salzburg and enjoyed my dinner in a cool café “Indigo”
A breakfast at the hotel just made the morning like being home, but with different taste and view, and plus different sound. I took a bus at the quiet bus stop right in front of the hotel on a rainy day… I was told it was typical Salzburg in May that you may encounter with cloudy days and scattering rain. My one day bag with a water proof cover helped on my belonging unfortunately not myself, anyways, just some minutes from the hotel by bus with 2 euros, you can also buy a Salzburg Pass if you need a smooth path of all sort. I got off at a bus stop right in front of the Mozart Wohnhaus or A Birthplace of Mozart. This is the only thing what I’ve heard about this city as it was a home Mozart and also one of the reasons why I made my way to visit him, should I call him, Mozart, the world talent? It has become the museum of Mozart for people from all around the world to visit his home and the city has become a musical city from his heritage and the movie of The Sound of Music. The neighbors around this area have already been a tourist spot. There were lots of hotels, café, restaurants, fashion shops and chocolate for those Chocó lovers and as a lovely souvenir for someone home.
The opposite of the Mozart Wohnhaus was The Mirabell Palace Garden. From here, you would see the Salzburg Castle or Festung Hohensalzburg, or it was also called the Hohensalzburg Fortress standing shined on the top of the hill which would be my next spot to visit. I had a slow walked in this beautiful garden then heading to cross the Staatsbrucke Bridge . It was still raining so needed to rush to the other bank of the river which was called the Old Town. I was actually followed the crowds and yes, I was somewhere that I should be. Then I just realized that I entered into the tourists’ center started from the Alter Markt, then to Universitatplatz which how I envy to those students if they were really having classes here. Moving on to the Residenzplatz to visit the palace and a fountain. I moved further to the Domplatz and Franziskan Church and to Kapitelplatz (Chapter Square) Chocolate with Mozarts were everywhere I walked by.
A break with a cup of cappuccino and brownie was nice enough to deal with the weather and my laziness on a rainy day. Just let myself indulged with caffeine and watch people moving by out there outside the café, I could be here all day long if it didn’t stop raining. But nature knew I was there to enjoy the sight seeing and was kind enough to stop by 2 p.m. I had only few hours to go up to the Salzburg Castle so I needed to rush my way up there. It was a little trekking up to the hill but was really nice to be there. The pass to the Festung or the Castle was 7 Euros but you needed to walk up, but the traditional style cable car would take you up there if you hire the service with 10 euros. From the Castle, you will see the city how beautiful Salzburg with Salzach River flown from the alpine range through the city and the other side was the beautiful snow alpines beyond.
After coming down from the castle, I strolled along the old market again to a different small narrow streets here and there. I skipped the lunch so it was a good reason to escape the rain hidden inside a restaurant for my dinner. After dinner around 2.30 P.M. before heading back to the hotel, all the sudden, the sky just looked like this! The whole sky of the western captured all of my very pulses on its colorful and tenderly sweet utter up there. I wondered if that was a typical Salzburg as well. Hmmmm….
Next morning with a sunny day I had a nice walk back to the city, not a bus but a walking slowly and smell the morning air. It was a quiet morning and I stopped by at the flower market right in front of the church which I didn’t know the name. A pretzel Shop with lots of different pretzel style, I should have tried a huge giant one, but somehow I haven’t .Walking into a typical way how the people in Salzburg enjoy their spring. To me it was the way to let yourself hearing the locals express how enjoyable life was and shared with people around.
